About Us
First off let me start by saying we are a family run and owned business. I started the company back in 1971 as Van's Home Improvements, thus V.H.I.. My son, Tom, started working with me part time at the age of 15, He now works with me full time and runs most of the jobs and as time progressed my Daughter-in law, Christy, has joined us in the office.
Here at V.H.I. Contractors, Inc, we believe that homeowners should know what to look for in a contractor and that there are fairly simple ways of being sure you make the correct decision in the contractor you choose. No matter, whether you are painting a room or doubling the size of your house. You need to have piece of mind that you won't be disappointed when the job is done.
I also believe that every job should be treated as if all work that follows hinges on this one job, because it does! If a contractor does a bad job, he may lose a little work but the important lose is his reputation and in the home improvement business this is a priceless commodity. I really enjoy my job because I get the opportunity to help people build that dream kitchen, deck, addition, or something as simple as adding chair rail to a dinning room. Over the years we have done such jobs as redesigning and rebuilding the floating dock for the presidential yacht "SEQUOIA" in 1986, restoring the Port Tobacco courthouse when the pipes in the attic froze in 1994, Restoring the 1915 Providence Methodist church in Fort Washington in 1997 (inside And out), designed and built a private home kennel in 1996, Designed and built a colonial style sun/sitting room 1995, along with many roofing, siding, We custom built the server counters for several of the local Ledos rest. in our cabinet shop in , Custom built all the cabinets for dental office in 1992 & 1995, oak doors for the national Hebrew center, Mahogany doors for a church, Mahogany desks for an attorney, furniture refinishing, painting, window replacements, custom built-ins, basements, decks, in 2001 restored an 1800's King George manor house roof , Restored the 1920 green house at Chatham Manor by removing the glass and rebuilding the cypress framing and then reassembling it.
Installed new footings, mini columns and beams under several 100 year old homes to level the floors and replaced rotting timbers, several of these required that tunnels be dug to gain access under the houses. Over the last 30 years I've seen a lot of different problems and there's always something different coming, I LOVE IT! Since the LaPlata tornado of 2002 and 2003s hurricane, we have been swamped with repairs and have had little time for the jobs that people "want" to get done. We have put a priority on those in "need" first and those who were caught up in the scams by the rip off contractors who follow the storms. It is truly a shame that there are so many out there that prey on the devastation that disasters can cause. We all pay for it in higher insurance rates.
| Sorry, I get started and I tend to go off the deep end but as I said before I enjoy my work. I'm proud of every job and thankful for everyone of our clients.
